The following are key players and contributors that are (mostly) found throughout the bible:
King David

Raised as a shepherd’s boy and the youngest of eight sons, David rose to the position of king after defeating Goliath, conquering many battles for Israel, and ultimately seeking after God’s own heart. David was the first to introduce music as an art in the Hebrew culture, which was originally because God instructed David to use instrumental music during worship. He then hired four thousand priests to be gatekeepers of the temple, and four thousand to play instruments during worship (that’s a lot). During this time, David encouraged what would now be considered as secular music while still focusing his musical abilities primarily towards worship. This included entertainment for banquets, celebrations, and among other citizens. He was a very skilled musician for his time, and was also an instrument maker. David would play his harp, or kinnor, to calm King Saul, and is responsible for writing half of the psalms in the book of Psalms. Many people today look to David and admire his praise and love for God that is demonstrated in the book of Psalms, as many worship choruses are derived from it. David promoted music as a means of enjoyment and supported musicians that were seeking careers. His love for music however was second only to his love for God, which is how he attained his success.
King Solomon

When Solomon first became king, God asked him wanted and would grant any request. Solomon asked for wisdom so that he could govern the city of Israel with authority and certainty. The Lord then also granted him riches that made him one of the wealthiest kings of his time, if not the wealthiest. His wisdom was also surpassed by none before him, and could answer any question with ease. He has written over 1000 songs that praise God, and hired musical performers from around the world to entertain him. He is what we would call in modern time an extreme music lover and supporter. He is responsible for pushing musical entertainment to the extreme with putting on the wickedest concerts of his time.
Jubal

In Genesis 4:21, Jubal, brother of Jabal, was credited as the father of music. He was the first to play the harp and the flute, although there are no additional texts that support details.
Miriam

Miriam was considered a leader in both music and dancing. She was a prophetess and a very skilled musician. Miriam was responsible for furthering the integration of dance with music in her time.
Jesus/God/Holy spirit

Although Jesus makes very few references to music in the bible, he highlights how he designed music to affect us as humans and manipulate our emotions. Matthew 11:17 states, “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn”. Here Jesus is addressing a crowd of people on how he designed music to affect us as humans. He was in this instance making the analogy that the people he was talking to were insensitive to what takes place around them. God is responsible for creating music, giving humans a mind that can perform and appreciate music, and also giving us a mind that can construct musical instruments. He is also Lord of all creation and the savior of mankind. He has Angels that praise him in the heavens with their voices and instruments never seen by man, and invites everyone to have a personal relationship with him and gain eternal life in heaven.
THAG the caveman

THAG the caveman has been credited by Gary Larson to be the first man to ever to direct a musical performance. However, this comic strip inaccurately depicts historical data and is most likely false. This has no biblical relevance, although I thought that some humour should be added to this topic in order to enhance this website.
